RILLA ALEXANDER / RINZEN
Australian design group Rinzen is best known for the collaborative approach of its five members and their RMX projects which bring artists from around the world together in spontaneous collaboration.
But also the individual artist’s solo projects have brought us some of today’s most memorable characters, such as the lovingly created world of the procrastination ridden “Sozi” by Rilla Alexander.
AKINORI OISHI
The characters of Japanese artist Akinori Oishi are reduced life forms, which he arranges to huge, never ending trees of life, inviting you to colour them in or to get lost in meditation. His sprawling artworks, animations, games, comics and illustrations are created with both, analogue and digital tools. Today Akinori Oishi works as an independent artist and teaches multi-media at the Nagoya Zokei University of Art in Japan.
SIGGI EGGERTSSON
Illustrator, graphic designer and typographer Siggi Eggertsson from Iceland has made a name for himself through his distinct use of abstract colours, playful lines and minimal geometric shapes. His digital work evokes optical tricks, creating dimensional effects through complexe patterns. Siggi works for a huge array of clients and is being represented by the London based agency Big Active.

PICTOPLASMA PROJECT
Lars Denicke and Peter Thaler give an introduction to the phenomenon of contemporary character design in its varied manifestations and talk about the cultural implications and links of today’s aesthetics to ancient and folklore archetypes.
From their perspective, characters are not representations of living beings, but have a more animistic quality, of giving objects or mere thoughts the appearance of life.
CHARACTERS IN MOTION
A specially curated animation programme brings freshly hatched characters in motion to the big screen. In an ongoing process, Pictoplasma hunts for the very best contemporary short films, music videos, motion graphics and experimental work.
The program include style defying all-time classics and the fresh and recent work by the world’s most talented studios, animators and designers.
Kampnagel - International Center for Finer Arts
The Kampnagel International Center for Finer Arts is located in a newly restored factory from WWII, that has been converted to a performance space for contemporary dance and theater. It offers an exciting program of international artists and occassionally hosts musical concerts, and dance parties.
